Among its many community outreach activities, Aurora United Church (AUC) is the sponsor of the Oakwil Seniors Homes , a 28-unit social housing complex located in Richmond Hill (Oak Ridges). AUC assumed the sponsorship of Oakwil following its merger with St. Paul’s United Church in Oak Ridges in 2008.
Operating under the Ontario Housing Services Act and subsidized by York Region, Oakwil’s purpose is to provide affordable housing to seniors. The members of Oakwil are the members of AUC Council.
Oakwil’s Board of Directors currently consists of Bill Newman (President), Christine Zarebski (Vice President), Dave Hanna (Corporate Secretary), Ken Graham (Corporate Treasurer) and Bernie Meagher, Resident Representative. On a day-to-day basis, the complex is managed under contract by Richmond Community Management Services (RCMS).
