Ringing in St. Colman’s Cathedral in Cobh, County Cork.
(Joyce, Lisa, Pat and Jennifer)
Four of our handbell ringers are on a "ringing" tour through Ireland. Joyce, Pat and Jennifer are practising in the hotel room (night before their first big rehearsal) - referred to as Air Belling.
Lisa (on the right), writes, "In the 11th century, when the plague was on, they built the doorway arch, so that the priest could stay on one side and the parishioner on the other, and you could whisper your confession. Unbelievably you can hear the other person whispering. I guess that's the first social distancing. The ruins are beautiful." Now on to Galway!
